Dr Ashraf Hoque is an experienced academic, cultural consultant, and policy advisor who has produced published work on British Muslims, youth masculinities, political participation in South Asia, and transnational religious movements. He regularly consults UK government departments, including the Cabinet Office’s Policy Lab, and the Foreign and Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). He has written over 400+ country information reports for UK Immigration and Asylum Tribunals. He has worked as an ethnographic researcher on numerous policy-oriented projects funded by the European Commission (EC) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). He has also provided expertise to mainstream media outlets and streaming services, such as Netflix, The Guardian, The Conversation, New York Times, BBC Radio 4, Al-Jazeera, ITN News and Sky News and Documentaries.

Ashraf holds a PhD in Anthropology from SOAS, University of London. He is Associate Professor of Social Anthropology at University College London (UCL), specialising in migration and diaspora studies, the anthropology of Islam, and the political economy of South Asia. He speaks English, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Sylheti, and literate in Modern Standard Arabic.
