Dalia Iskander,
Senior Consultant  

Dr Dalia Iskander is currently the Head of Medical Anthropology at University College London (UCL) and an internationally-recognised expert in health, particularly the social drivers of disease, behaviour change strategies and the evaluation of health interventions. Her research focusses on social risk factors for diseases (malaria, zoonoses and nutritional diseases); the politics of health practice and the implications for interventions and policy; and the connection between art, craft and well-being. She has regional expertise in the Philippines, Malaysian Borneo, Cambodia and the UK. She has consulted for the United Nations, international Think Tanks and research institutes around the world.

Dalia uses both qualitative and quantitative methods in her research. She has particular expertise in visual methods including mapping, photography and film.

Dalia has a PhD in Medical Anthropology (University of Durham); Masters in Medical Anthropology (University of Oxford); and BSc in Archaeology and Anthropology (University of Oxford). She is currently Associate Professor in Medical Anthropology at UCL and has held previous research and management positions at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK; UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, UK; and The International Trust for Traditional Medicine, India.
